Consolidation of Power
It's finally come to this. I'm tired of trying to build and manage multiple sites for the projects that I'm working on and want to share. Besides having a home base for my music catalog, I've been doing a bit of writing in two different blogs. They're music related, but have very different focuses.
One is called Music In The Margins, which is where I've been writing about concepts related to productivity and mindset in home studio music production. It's basically where I work out my thoughts on how to keep making progress when time is at a premium, strategies for finishing more music, etc. I've learned a lot over the years as I've been pursuing my musical endeavors and feel the need to work through these ideas and share them. Selfishly, it's something that I know is good for me to keep front of mind. Figuring out how to explain a concept to someone else is one of the best ways to internalize it for myself. I know that some strategies work, but only if I remember to use them. It's more likely that I'll take my own advice if I'm always writing/talking about it.
The other is a project called The Albums That Made Me. In an effort to reconnect with the joy of just listening to music, I've started to reflect on the albums that have been the biggest part of my life. I started by thinking back and making a list of all the albums that had the heaviest rotation through the different eras of my life so far, especially the early parts. I've been listening to them and writing about how I discovered them, what was happening in my life at the time, and what I hear when I listen to them now. That kind of thing. I've only finished a few at this point, but it's been a good experience to reflect and I plan to continue. It would be cool to hear stories from other people on those albums as well, so I will have to start soliciting those kinds of interactions if I actually want that to happen.
So my plan here is to bring both blogs here and just keep writing both in one place, just titling and tagging them appropriately. I'm also planning on sprinkling in some gear reviews as well, and probably some non-music subject matter. So I guess this is where I'm going to do whatever I want, though music will tend to be the focus.
This website is so much simpler than trying to have a website with all kinds of images and fancy stuff. I'm not trying to "make it" as an artist, and other than feeling like I'm "supposed to" have a media-rich website to showcase my stuff, I really don't want to deal with that. I'll just be doing a lot of writing, which I think suits me. Thanks for reading.
